Blizzard has officially revealed a new StarCraft game at BlizzCon 2026, confirming that the long-rumored shooter will bring the franchise back in 2030.
The project was announced by Dan Hay alongside a cinematic trailer focused on the Terran Dominion and its soldiers. It will mark the first new StarCraft release since StarCraft: Remastered in 2017.

StarCraft Returns as a Shooter
Rather than another traditional RTS, the new StarCraft is taking the franchise into shooter territory, confirming years of reports that Blizzard was developing a different kind of game within the universe.
The announcement cinematic follows a young soldier preparing for ground combat while Dominion propaganda calls on a new generation to fight for humanity.
“The sons and daughters of the Dominion answered the call when mankind needed them most. Their courage held the line. Their sacrifice bought us another day. Now the call comes to you.”
The trailer ends by confirming that StarCraft will return in 2030.
Despite the shift toward a shooter, Blizzard president Johanna Faries has stressed that the project won’t completely abandon the franchise’s heritage, describing it as a StarCraft for a new generation that remains connected to its RTS roots.
A Long-Awaited Return for StarCraft
StarCraft has remained largely dormant as a game franchise for years, making the BlizzCon reveal one of Blizzard‘s biggest announcements.
Details about gameplay, platforms and an exact release date remain unknown, and with 2030 still several years away, Blizzard has plenty of time to reveal how its shooter gameplay will fit into the established StarCraft universe.
For now, the important part is official: StarCraft is back, and its next major game is coming in 2030.
