Quantic Dream Employees Launch Strike to Save Star Wars Eclipse

The future of Star Wars Eclipse has become even more uncertain as developers at Quantic Dream launch a strike aimed at securing the resources they believe are necessary to finish the long-awaited project.

The industrial action follows the recent cancellation of Spellcaster Chronicles, a project that was reportedly expected to help finance the continued development of Star Wars Eclipse. With that funding gone, employees now claim the studio is critically understaffed and struggling to keep the ambitious Star Wars title on track.

Developers Say the Strike Is Meant to Protect the Project

According to a report from Gamekult, employees insist the strike is not intended to delay or sabotage Star Wars Eclipse. Instead, they argue it is an effort to ensure the game can actually be completed.

One developer, identified as Jules, stated that Quantic Dream would require at least 115 additional developers who previously worked on Spellcaster Chronicles to realistically finish Star Wars Eclipse.

“We could manage to release it with 115 additional people, and that wouldn’t be overstaffed—it’s what’s needed.”

Jules also claimed the studio has become severely understaffed, adding that many developers began working overtime shortly after the project cancellations and staffing reductions were announced.

According to the developer, the situation reflects a wider issue across the games industry, where studios increasingly rely on employee passion and extended crunch periods to complete major projects.

Staff Believe Important Information Is Being Withheld

Another Quantic Dream developer, identified as Theo, suggested employees may not have been fully informed about decisions made following the cancellation of Spellcaster Chronicles.

Theo believes management could be withholding information about directives from NetEase, which acquired Quantic Dream in 2022, because those decisions may involve reducing the overall scope of Star Wars Eclipse.

“I think they’re embarrassed by certain decisions that have been imposed… because it would involve cutting content.”

While these claims remain unverified, they highlight growing concerns among employees about the direction of the project.

Star Wars Eclipse Has Faced Years of Development Challenges

Since its announcement in 2021, Star Wars Eclipse has experienced a lengthy and reportedly difficult development cycle.

Earlier reports suggested progress on the project had been slower than expected, while Quantic Dream previously stated that development remained unaffected following the studio’s acquisition by NetEase.

However, the cancellation of Spellcaster Chronicles earlier this year raised fresh concerns about Quantic Dream’s financial situation, with previous reports indicating that revenue from the canceled project was expected to support ongoing work on Star Wars Eclipse.

The Future Remains Uncertain

Neither Quantic Dream nor NetEase has publicly responded to the latest claims surrounding the strike.

For now, Star Wars Eclipse remains in development, but the latest reports suggest significant internal challenges still need to be resolved before the game is ready for release.

Fans have been waiting years to see Quantic Dream’s ambitious take on the Star Wars universe, but whether the project can overcome its current staffing and production issues remains one of the biggest questions surrounding the studio.
