New details have emerged regarding 007 First Light, and some fans may be disappointed to hear that the game reportedly will not include a New Game Plus mode at launch.
The upcoming spy thriller from IO Interactive is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated action titles on the horizon, but it appears players may only get a single progression path initially.
No New Game Plus — For Now
According to the report, 007 First Light currently does not plan to offer a New Game Plus mode when the game launches.
This means players likely won’t be able to replay the campaign with:
- Unlocked gadgets
- Upgraded abilities
- Late-game progression carried over
At least not during the initial release window.
A Story-Driven Focus
The decision may indicate that IO Interactive is prioritizing a tightly balanced first-playthrough experience.
Given the studio’s work on the Hitman series, there’s a strong possibility the game will instead focus on:
- Replayability through mission design
- Different approaches to objectives
- Hidden paths and secrets
- Multiple stealth and action strategies
rather than traditional RPG-style progression loops.
Could It Arrive Later?
Although New Game Plus reportedly won’t be available at launch, that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t arrive post-release.
Many modern single-player games add NG+ modes through later updates after launch feedback and balancing adjustments.
Considering the demand such modes often receive, fans will likely continue requesting it after release.
Expectations Continue to Build
007 First Light remains one of the most intriguing upcoming action games, especially with IO Interactive bringing its stealth expertise into the James Bond universe.
With more reveals expected in the coming months, players are eager to see exactly how the studio reinvents the iconic spy franchise for a modern audience.
Amazon MGM Already Showing Strong Confidence in 007 First Light
In a recent interview, Hakan Abrak revealed that both IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios are extremely confident in the quality of 007 First Light.
According to Abrak, Amazon quickly became strong supporters of the project after seeing the game in action and spending time playing it internally.
“They can see it’s a great game.”
Abrak explained that Amazon MGM wants to ensure every new James Bond project reaches a high standard, especially after taking over the iconic IP.
A Long-Term Vision for James Bond Gaming
The relationship between IO Interactive and Amazon MGM also appears to be very strong behind the scenes, with both sides already thinking about the future of the franchise.
Abrak specifically mentioned the importance of seeing how players respond to this new version of James Bond:
- Will fans connect with the character?
- Will the community want more stories?
- Can this become a long-term franchise?
Those questions are clearly already being discussed internally.
Could a Sequel Already Be Possible?
Perhaps most interestingly, Abrak hinted that a sequel could absolutely happen if 007 First Light performs well both critically and commercially.
“If this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community, why not?”
While nothing has been officially confirmed, it’s clear that 007 First Light is being viewed as more than just a one-off project.
If the game delivers, IO Interactive may have the opportunity to build an entirely new era of James Bond games.
