Microsoft has officially confirmed that development of Copilot for Xbox consoles is being stopped.
The news comes directly from Asha Sharma, who stated that Xbox will begin “winding down Copilot on mobile” and “stop development of Copilot on console” as part of a broader strategic shift for the platform.
Xbox Refocusing Its Priorities
According to Sharma, Xbox now wants to:
- Move faster
- Improve its connection with the community
- Reduce friction for both players and developers
As part of that vision, some features that no longer align with Xbox’s direction are being retired — including Copilot integration for consoles.
What Was Copilot Supposed to Do?
The AI-powered assistant was originally expected to help players with:
- In-game guidance
- System navigation
- Personalized recommendations
- Accessibility improvements
Microsoft had previously showcased plans for Copilot integration across gaming experiences, but those ambitions now appear to be changing significantly.
AI Still Matters to Xbox
Even though Copilot for consoles is ending, Microsoft continues investing heavily in AI across its wider ecosystem.
This suggests the company may instead focus on AI tools behind the scenes — helping developers and services — rather than offering AI assistants directly to console players.
