A brand-new datamine for Resident Evil Requiem has revealed a surprising amount of cut content that never made it into the final version of the game — including a Merchant-style character, toxic ammunition, new gameplay mechanics, and even seizure-related systems tied to Leon.
The information comes from well-known insider DuskGolem, who highlighted findings originally shared by user umesooooo on X.
Merchant Character and Weapon Customization Were Originally Planned
One of the biggest discoveries from the datamine is the existence of a Merchant-like character, similar to the iconic merchant system seen in Resident Evil 4.
The leaked material reportedly included a fully functional weapon customization screen, suggesting players may have originally been able to upgrade or modify weapons through a dedicated vendor system.
Additionally, files referencing side missions or sub-objectives were also discovered, once again drawing comparisons to Resident Evil 4’s optional task structure.
Toxic Ammo and Alternate Ammunition Types Found
The datamine also revealed references to multiple unused ammunition types.
Among them was Toxic Ammo, featuring purple, poison-themed bullets that seemingly inflicted status effects on enemies.
Other cut mechanics included:
- Combustion-based ammunition
- Swapping between normal and toxic rounds
- Expanded weapon UI systems
- Additional ammo management mechanics
It appears Capcom originally experimented with a much deeper combat customization system before scaling things back for release.
Leon and Grace Originally Shared More Gameplay Segments
Another interesting discovery showed an unused map where both Leon and Grace appeared together simultaneously.
There was also a deleted animation sequence involving Emily being abducted by zombies, hinting at additional story content or alternate scenarios that never made the final cut.
Leon’s “Seizure” Mechanic Was Potentially Much Bigger
Perhaps the strangest revelation involves a mechanic referred to as Leon’s Seizure.
According to the leaked files, the mechanic appeared alongside references to a cut Professional Difficulty mode, where Leon’s seizures would reportedly happen more frequently and become a major gameplay concern.
While the exact purpose of the mechanic remains unclear, fans are already speculating that it may have tied into infection systems, hallucinations, stress mechanics, or psychological horror elements.
Motorcycle Repair, Blood Enhancements, and Investigation Systems
The datamine also uncovered evidence of several other gameplay systems that were ultimately removed from the game.
These included:
- A tutorial for repairing a broken motorcycle
- Investigation mechanics tied to murder scenes
- A blood collection kit usable by Leon
- Temporary enhancement drugs created from collected blood
According to the leaked information, blood enhancements could reportedly improve:
- Stamina
- Critical hit rate
- Weapon performance
If accurate, it suggests Resident Evil Requiem may have once leaned far more heavily into survival-RPG mechanics during development.
Fans Fascinated by What Could Have Been
Even though much of this content never made the final release, the discoveries offer a fascinating look into how ambitious Resident Evil Requiem may have originally been behind the scenes.
Between unused mechanics, expanded survival systems, alternate ammo types, and psychological gameplay ideas, it’s clear Capcom experimented with a much larger scope before finalizing the experience players ultimately received.
