Lizzy Caplan Joins the Cast of FX’s Far Cry TV Series

The upcoming Far Cry television adaptation has added another major name to its growing cast.

Lizzy Caplan, best known for her acclaimed performances in Fleishman Is in Trouble and Masters of Sex, has officially joined the cast of FX’s upcoming Far Cry series. The announcement was made through the franchise’s official social media channels, marking the first major casting reveal since the project was announced last year.

The series is being developed by FX and will stream exclusively on Hulu in the United States.

A Star-Studded Creative Team

The Far Cry television series was first announced in November 2025, with Noah Hawley attached as executive producer and showrunner.

Hawley has built a reputation as one of television’s most respected creators thanks to critically acclaimed series such as Fargo and Legion, making him an intriguing choice to adapt Ubisoft’s iconic open-world franchise.

Joining him behind the scenes is Rob McElhenney (credited professionally as Rob Mac), best known for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, who will also appear on-screen as part of the cast.

With Caplan now joining the project, the adaptation continues to assemble an impressive lineup both in front of and behind the camera.

The Show Won’t Adapt One Specific Game

One of the biggest questions surrounding the project has been which Far Cry game it intends to adapt.

According to Noah Hawley, the answer is none of them.

Rather than directly retelling the story of Far Cry 3, Far Cry 5, or any other entry, Hawley previously explained that the television series will draw inspiration from multiple games across the franchise while telling an entirely original story.

Speaking about his approach, Hawley noted that simply recreating a game’s narrative wouldn’t necessarily translate into compelling television.

“When you play a video game, you only really move forward through the gameplay section… when you adapt those games, you have to be aware that makes the human drama kind of irrelevant to the storyline. That is death for a show.”

Instead, Hawley plans to build a story that captures the themes, atmosphere, and unpredictable nature of Far Cry while creating stronger emotional connections for television audiences.

What Role Will Lizzy Caplan Play?

At the moment, FX has not revealed which character Caplan will portray.

Her casting announcement did not include any story details, and very little is currently known about the show’s plot beyond Hawley’s comments regarding its original narrative.

Given Caplan’s previous performances, however, many fans expect she’ll play one of the central characters rather than a supporting role.

Additional casting announcements are expected over the coming months as production continues.

When Will the Far Cry Series Release?

FX has yet to announce an official premiere date for the Far Cry adaptation.

Production appears to still be in its early stages, meaning fans may have to wait a while before seeing Ubisoft’s chaotic open-world universe make the jump to live-action television.

Still, with Noah Hawley leading the creative vision and Lizzy Caplan becoming the first major cast member officially announced, excitement surrounding the project is steadily growing.

If the adaptation successfully captures the franchise’s blend of survival, political conflict, memorable villains, and unpredictable storytelling, it could become one of the most anticipated video game television series in recent years.
