Supermassive Games CEO Robert Henrysson Steps Down After Two Years

Supermassive Games is undergoing another leadership change, as CEO Robert Henrysson has officially announced his departure after a little more than two years leading the studio.

Henrysson shared the news through a post on LinkedIn, describing his time at the company as one of the most rewarding periods of his career.

Robert Henrysson Leaves Supermassive Games

In his farewell message, Henrysson reflected positively on his time at both Supermassive Games and parent company Nordisk Games.

He wrote:

“It’s been a fantastic time.”

Henrysson also confirmed that he is leaving Nordisk Games and plans to spend the summer with his family before considering his next professional opportunity.

According to the outgoing executive, he intends to focus on his personal investment portfolio while remaining open to selected advisory positions in the future.

A Short but Eventful Tenure

Although Henrysson served as CEO of Supermassive Games for approximately 30 months, his relationship with Nordisk Games began in 2022, when he joined the company as a partner.

He officially became CEO of Supermassive Games in 2024, taking over leadership during an important period for the studio as development continued on Directive 8020, the latest entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology.

Directive 8020 Marks a Milestone

In a statement acknowledging Henrysson’s departure, Nordisk Games credited him with helping reshape the studio’s leadership and long-term strategy.

According to the company, his tenure included:

  • Rebuilding Supermassive’s leadership team
  • Refining the studio’s strategic direction
  • Overseeing the completion and launch of Directive 8020
  • Expanding the studio’s client relationships
  • Establishing stronger quality standards across development

Nordisk also highlighted that Directive 8020 achieved the strongest critical reception in The Dark Pictures series to date.

The company described Henrysson’s departure as a “natural time” following the successful launch of the title.

What’s Next for Supermassive Games?

At the time of writing, Supermassive Games has not announced a permanent replacement for Henrysson.

The studio remains best known for narrative-driven horror games, including:

  • Until Dawn
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology
  • The Quarry
  • Directive 8020

With Directive 8020 now released, attention will likely shift toward Supermassive’s next major project under new leadership.
