Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Moved Forward by Nearly Three Weeks

Capcom has officially announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch earlier than originally planned, giving fans access to the action-adventure title almost three weeks ahead of schedule.

Instead of releasing on September 24, the game will now launch on September 4, 2026.

The announcement was made through Capcom’s official social media channels, although the publisher did not provide a reason for the unexpected schedule change.

Capcom Updates Pre-Order Bonus

Because of the earlier launch, Capcom has also adjusted its pre-order promotion.

Rather than being exclusive to players who pre-order the game, the bonus will now become an Early Adopter Bonus.

Anyone who purchases Onimusha: Way of the Sword before September 24 will still be eligible to claim the reward.

Capcom also confirmed that the game’s demo will be updated to reflect the new release date, although no additional demo content will be added.

Nintendo Switch 2 Players Need to Re-Order

The earlier release date creates one inconvenience for Nintendo Switch 2 users.

Capcom revealed that digital pre-orders on Nintendo eShop will be automatically canceled due to the schedule change.

Players who planned to purchase the digital version on Switch 2 will need to place a new pre-order once it becomes available again.

Fortunately, physical pre-orders, including those made through e-Capcom, will remain unaffected.

Why Was the Release Date Changed?

Capcom has not explained why it decided to move the launch forward.

However, the original September 24 release would have placed the game just weeks before Grand Theft Auto 6, which launches later this year and is expected to dominate the gaming landscape.

The new release date gives Onimusha: Way of the Sword a larger window before Rockstar’s blockbuster arrives, although it still faces stiff competition.

The game will now launch just one day after The Blood of Dawnwalker, while Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to arrive roughly ten days later.

A Rare Move in Today’s Industry

Release date delays have become increasingly common across the industry, making early launches relatively rare.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Capcom has moved a game forward this year. Earlier in 2026, PRAGMATA also launched ahead of its originally announced release date.

Whether the earlier launch is part of a broader scheduling strategy or simply reflects the team’s confidence in development, fans will now be able to jump into Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 4, 2026.
