Halo: Campaign Evolved continues to reveal new details ahead of launch, with Halo Studios confirming that the game’s physical edition will include a disc while also showcasing several gameplay improvements designed to modernize the classic campaign.
The latest information comes from the July Community Q&A, where the developers answered fan questions about physical editions, AI enhancements, co-op features, weapon mechanics, and more.
Physical Edition Will Include a Disc
Following growing uncertainty surrounding physical media—especially after Sony announced it will end physical disc production for new PlayStation games in 2028 and Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 ships with only a download code—Halo Studios reassured collectors.
The developers confirmed that purchasing Halo: Campaign Evolved at retail for Xbox or PlayStation will include:
- A physical game case
- A physical game disc
- A collectible boxed edition for your library
According to the team:
“Buying the Xbox or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at your local retailer will result in getting the physical game case and disc so that you have tangible items to add to your collection.”

Physical Pre-Order Bonuses Explained
Halo Studios also clarified how physical edition owners will receive their pre-order rewards.
Players purchasing the Collector’s Edition will find a Foundry Armory Pack redemption code inside the Steelbook case.
Meanwhile:
- Participating retailers will provide a redemption code on the purchase receipt.
- Digital pre-orders on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam will automatically unlock the Foundry Armory Pack after installation.
Enemy AI Has Been Improved
Beyond the physical edition news, Halo Studios confirmed that the campaign itself has received several refinements since the recent creator preview shown during the Xbox Games Showcase.
When asked whether enemy AI had changed since the preview build, the developers responded:
“Yes! The Xbox Showcase media and creator preview demo earlier this month was a pre-release build tailored to specific timing and scope needs. Over the last few weeks, the development team has been polishing and improving elements of the game, including enemy AI behaviors.”
The team didn’t reveal specific AI changes, but confirmed that enemy behavior has been refined as development continues.

Weapon Dropping Returns
One of the biggest quality-of-life improvements comes from Halo Infinite.
Players will once again be able to drop their currently equipped weapon for teammates without needing to swap it with another weapon on the ground.
Halo Studios confirmed:
“If you have two weapons, feel free to drop one of them for your friend anytime you want.”
The feature should make cooperative play significantly smoother than in the original Halo: Combat Evolved.
Machinima Mode Confirmed
Content creators also received good news.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch with a dedicated Machinima Mode, allowing players to:
- Use a free camera
- Lower their weapons
- Control their Spartan while using freecam
The feature is expected to give creators much greater flexibility when capturing cinematic footage or creating community videos.
Modern Improvements Without Losing the Original Feel
Halo Studios appears to be striking a balance between preserving the original experience and introducing modern conveniences expected from today’s shooters.
Between smarter enemy AI, improved cooperative mechanics, Machinima Mode, and confirmation that physical buyers will still receive a genuine game disc, Halo: Campaign Evolved is shaping up to be a faithful remake that modernizes the original without sacrificing what made it iconic.
