Phantom Blade Zero is officially nearing the finish line, with pre-orders now live and developer S-Game preparing a dedicated State of Play presentation that will offer an extensive new look at the highly anticipated action game.
The studio previously confirmed that development had reached completion ahead of the game’s October launch, and fans have now received an 11-minute trailer showcasing more of its story, characters, and fast-paced combat.
However, S-Game isn’t finished revealing new details just yet. A dedicated Phantom Blade Zero State of Play will take place on August 17, promising an even deeper look at the game’s combat systems and story.

Phantom Blade Zero Pre-Orders Are Now Live
Pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero officially opened on August 11 across its digital storefronts.
Players can currently pre-order the game through:
- PlayStation Store
- Steam
- Epic Games Store
The announcement was accompanied by a lengthy 11-minute trailer, following protagonist Soul deeper into the game’s mysterious world while introducing new characters and encounters.
The footage also provided another showcase of the fast and highly choreographed melee combat that has made Phantom Blade Zero one of the most anticipated action games of 2026.
Phantom Blade Zero State of Play Coming August 17
S-Game has also announced a dedicated State of Play presentation for August 17 at 7 PM PT.
Rather than another short trailer, the presentation will serve as a proper gameplay deep dive.
According to S-Game CEO Soulframe Liang, the showcase will introduce previously unseen characters who play important roles in the story while demonstrating how much freedom players will have when creating their individual combat builds.
The presentation should therefore give fans their most detailed explanation yet of how Phantom Blade Zero actually plays ahead of release.
Donnie Yen Is Involved With Phantom Blade Zero
One of the biggest new details surrounding the game is the involvement of legendary martial artist and actor Donnie Yen.
Yen has reportedly worked with S-Game as a creative consultant since 2023, bringing his extensive knowledge of martial arts and action filmmaking to the project.
His involvement goes even further, as Yen also provides facial and motion capture for Mó Yuan, the father of protagonist Soul.
Given Phantom Blade Zero’s heavy focus on cinematic martial arts combat, bringing someone with Yen’s experience into the development process could help S-Game achieve the authenticity and choreography it is aiming for.

Kungfupunk Combat Meets a Dark Fantasy World
Phantom Blade Zero combines fantasy, folk horror, martial arts, and mechanical technology into a style S-Game describes as “kungfupunk.”
Combat is built around incredibly fast swordplay and martial arts techniques, with players combining different weapons, abilities, and fighting styles against increasingly dangerous enemies.
Previous gameplay demonstrations have highlighted fluid transitions between attacks, defensive techniques, executions, and cinematic boss encounters.
The upcoming State of Play should provide a much better explanation of how these mechanics work beneath the flashy presentation.
Player Choices Can Influence the Story
Combat isn’t the only major system S-Game has developed for Phantom Blade Zero.
The game also features an Honor System capable of influencing how certain parts of the story unfold.
Player decisions and actions can create a butterfly effect throughout the narrative, with helping characters and behaving honorably potentially changing future events and even elements of the main quest.
This should give players additional reasons to explore the world carefully rather than simply fighting their way through every encounter.
Phantom Blade Zero Launches October 29
Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled to launch on October 29, 2026, with development now reportedly complete and pre-orders officially available.
The next major stop will be the August 17 State of Play, where S-Game will provide an extended gameplay deep dive alongside new characters and additional story information.
Between the new 11-minute trailer, Donnie Yen’s involvement, and an entire presentation dedicated to explaining the game’s combat, August is shaping up to be a major month for Phantom Blade Zero ahead of its October release.
