GTA 6 Could Feature a 60 FPS Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X, New Report Claims

A new report suggests Grand Theft Auto 6 could launch with both Quality and Performance graphics modes, potentially allowing players to experience Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated open-world epic, GTA 6, at 60 FPS on current-generation consoles.

While Rockstar Games has yet to officially confirm any performance targets, the latest rumor comes from a source with a solid track record of previous industry leaks.

As excitement builds for the impending release of GTA 6, fans are eager to learn more about its performance capabilities.

GTA 6 Reportedly Targets Both 30 FPS and 60 FPS

The claim originates from the Rock and Borys podcast, which previously gained credibility after correctly revealing that The Witcher 3 would receive new DLC in 2026.

According to information shared during the podcast, a source close to Rockstar Games claims the studio is currently targeting two graphical modes for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X:

  • Quality Mode – 30 FPS
  • Performance Mode – 60 FPS

However, the report stresses that 60 FPS has not yet been finalized, meaning plans could still change before launch.

Xbox Series S May Remain Limited to 30 FPS

The report also claims that Rockstar is still working to improve performance on the Xbox Series S.

According to the podcast, the current internal build reportedly runs at 30 FPS on Microsoft’s entry-level console, although developers are allegedly attempting to achieve a 60 FPS mode if optimization allows.

At present, there is no indication that this target has been achieved.

What About PS5 Pro?

Interestingly, the report makes no specific mention of the PlayStation 5 Pro.

That omission has sparked speculation, particularly following recent reports suggesting GTA 6 will feature:

  • Improved image quality
  • More stable frame rates
  • Enhanced overall performance on PS5 Pro

Given the console’s additional GPU power, many expect Sony’s upgraded hardware to provide the smoothest console experience when the game launches.

Rockstar Has Yet to Confirm Performance Details

As with many GTA 6 rumors, it’s important to approach the report with caution.

Rockstar Games has not announced:

  • Supported frame rates
  • Graphics modes
  • Resolution targets
  • Platform-specific performance differences

Considering the enormous scale of Leonida and the technical ambition showcased in both trailers, many analysts have questioned whether maintaining a stable 60 FPS on base consoles would even be possible.

A 60 FPS Option Would Be Welcome

If the report proves accurate, a Performance Mode would be excellent news for players who prioritize smooth gameplay over maximum visual fidelity.

Modern AAA releases increasingly launch with both Quality and Performance options, allowing players to choose between:

  • Higher resolution, ray tracing, and visual effects at 30 FPS
  • Reduced graphical settings with smoother 60 FPS gameplay

Whether Rockstar can deliver that level of performance across every console remains one of the biggest technical questions surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 ahead of its November release.

Until Rockstar officially reveals the game’s technical specifications, the existence of a 60 FPS mode should still be treated as an unconfirmed rumor.
