Capcom has released its latest financial results, revealing that digital game sales now account for more than 93% of its total software sales, highlighting the industry’s continuing shift away from physical copies.
The publisher’s strong digital performance comes after another successful quarter, driven by blockbuster releases and continued sales of its extensive back catalog.

More Than 93% of Sales Were Digital
According to Capcom’s latest financial report, 93.3% of all game sales during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 were digital downloads, leaving physical copies responsible for just 6.7% of total unit sales.
While the percentage is slightly lower than the 95.2% recorded during the previous fiscal year, overall digital sales volume increased significantly thanks to stronger software sales across the company’s portfolio.
Capcom reported that digital content was the primary driver behind both revenue and profit growth during the quarter.
Resident Evil Requiem Leads Another Strong Quarter
One of the biggest contributors to Capcom’s performance was Resident Evil Requiem, which continues to be one of 2026’s best-selling games.
The company also shared several notable sales milestones:
- Resident Evil Requiem has surpassed 8 million copies sold worldwide.
- Pragmata sold approximately 2.5 million copies during the quarter.
- Long-running titles such as Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter: World, and Devil May Cry 5 continued generating steady sales years after their original releases.
The continued success of older titles demonstrates the long-term strength of Capcom’s catalog, particularly through digital storefronts.

PC Continues to Drive Digital Growth
Capcom also provided a breakdown of where digital purchases are taking place.
Of all digital software sold during the quarter:
- 60% came from PC platforms.
- 33% came from console platforms.
- The remaining sales were generated across other digital channels.
The figures underline the growing importance of the PC market, which has become one of Capcom’s strongest sources of software revenue in recent years.
The Industry’s Digital Transition Accelerates
Capcom’s results reflect a broader trend across the video game industry.
Publishers have increasingly shifted their focus toward digital distribution as more players purchase games through online storefronts rather than buying physical discs.
Recent reports have also suggested that Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to phase out physical releases for first-party PlayStation games beginning in 2028, a move that has sparked widespread discussion among players who prefer physical ownership.
Although physical media continues to have a dedicated audience, financial results from major publishers increasingly show that digital purchases now represent the overwhelming majority of game sales.
A Record-Breaking Period for Capcom
Between the continued success of Resident Evil Requiem, the strong launch of Pragmata, and steady sales from its classic franchises, Capcom has maintained another highly successful quarter.
With 93.3% of software sales now coming from digital downloads, the publisher’s latest financial report offers another clear indication that the future of game distribution is continuing to move toward digital-first platforms, even as demand for physical editions remains among many dedicated collectors.
