A brand-new rumor claims that Sony Interactive Entertainment may finally be preparing its next major State of Play presentation for May 24, 2026.
At the moment, nothing has been officially confirmed by Sony, but speculation surrounding a new showcase has been growing rapidly over the last few weeks.
State of Play Rumor Comes From Marvel Insider
The latest claim comes from SM Vision, a social media account primarily known for Marvel-related leaks and rumors.
According to the post:
“I can confirm that the State of Play will take place on May 24th.”
The account also claims an official announcement from Sony is expected sometime next week.
As of now, no major insiders have fully confirmed or debunked the rumor.
Previous Reports Already Suggested a Spring Showcase
Interestingly, this lines up with earlier reports from insider Millie A, who previously stated that Sony had already begun contacting developers in preparation for a late spring or early summer presentation.
That timing would make sense considering the gaming industry’s larger June marketing cycle is rapidly approaching.
Sony typically likes positioning State of Play events shortly before:
- Summer Game Fest,
- Xbox showcases,
- and broader summer announcements.
Marvel’s Wolverine Rumored for the Show
Because SM Vision primarily focuses on Marvel-related content, many fans immediately started speculating that Marvel’s Wolverine could finally reappear during the rumored presentation.
The game has been largely absent since its original reveal teaser, despite enormous anticipation surrounding Insomniac Games.
Other insiders, including AlexandreNGamR, have also previously hinted that Wolverine may be part of Sony’s upcoming showcase plans.
What Could Sony Show?
If the State of Play rumor turns out to be real, potential appearances could include:
- Marvel’s Wolverine
- Ghost of Yōtei
- Saros
- Death Stranding 2 DLC/content
- Marathon updates
- Resident Evil announcements
- PS Plus reveals
- Third-party partner games
And honestly, with the second half of 2026 starting to look absolutely stacked, Sony probably needs a showcase soon to properly lay out what the rest of the PS5 year actually looks like.
For now though, players should still treat the May 24 date as a rumor until Sony officially confirms anything.
