Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, finally putting an end to years of speculation surrounding a sequel to the hugely successful open-world RPG.

The confirmation came directly from Warner Bros. Discovery in its latest letter to shareholders, where the company discussed its future gaming strategy and specifically listed the “second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” as one of the major games currently in its pipeline.

While a release date, platforms, and official title have yet to be revealed, we now know for certain that another Hogwarts Legacy adventure is coming.

Warner Bros. Confirms Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

The confirmation appeared in Warner Bros. Discovery’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter, with the company identifying gaming as an important part of its long-term growth strategy.

Warner Bros. explained that it is now focusing its gaming investments around a smaller number of major franchises rather than spreading resources across a large number of projects.

The company stated:

“We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”

It’s a brief statement, but importantly, this is direct confirmation from Warner Bros. that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is happening.

The company did not reveal whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be the game’s official name, meaning the project could ultimately launch under a different subtitle.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Was Always Likely After the Original’s Huge Success

A sequel isn’t particularly surprising considering just how successful Hogwarts Legacy has become.

The original game launched in 2023 and has since sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, establishing itself as one of Warner Bros.’ biggest modern gaming properties.

Hogwarts Legacy allowed players to create their own student before attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, choosing a house, learning spells, exploring the castle, and discovering a story involving a mysterious form of ancient magic.

The game’s open world also extended well beyond Hogwarts itself, with players able to explore Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and numerous surrounding locations.

With those sales numbers, another major Hogwarts RPG was always extremely likely.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Development Had Already Been Teased

Although this is one of the clearest official confirmations yet, there have been signs that another Hogwarts Legacy game was already moving forward.

Job listings discovered in 2025 suggested that development on a new project related to Hogwarts Legacy was underway.

Some of those listings also raised speculation that online or multiplayer functionality could potentially be introduced in the sequel, although Warner Bros. has not confirmed any such feature.

For now, details surrounding the actual game remain extremely limited.

We don’t know whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 will continue the story and characters of the original, introduce another custom student, explore a different period in Hogwarts history, or significantly expand the surrounding Wizarding World.

When Will Hogwarts Legacy 2 Release?

Warner Bros. has not announced a release date or release window for Hogwarts Legacy 2.

Platforms haven’t been confirmed either, and there’s currently no gameplay footage, screenshots, or official trailer.

For now, the biggest news is simply that the speculation can finally end: the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy is officially part of Warner Bros.’ upcoming gaming pipeline.

Considering the original game’s enormous success, expectations will be incredibly high for whatever comes next.
