Mega Man Dual Override

Mega Man Dual Override Shows First Gameplay, Confirms Proto Man

Capcom has revealed the first gameplay trailer for Mega Man Dual Override at Gamescom Opening Night Live, showing off new abilities, Robot Master Twinkle Girl, and the return of Proto Man.

After years away from the spotlight, Mega Man is finally preparing for another proper adventure.

Capcom announced Mega Man Dual Override at The Game Awards 2025, confirming the Blue Bomber would return with a brand-new entry scheduled for 2027. Since then, we’ve been waiting to see exactly how the game plays.

That wait is finally over.

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, Capcom debuted the first gameplay trailer for Mega Man Dual Override, providing our best look yet at its platforming, combat, new mechanics, and one of its new Robot Masters.

There was another welcome surprise, too: Proto Man is back.

Mega Man Dual Override

Mega Man Dual Override Gameplay Introduces Twinkle Girl

The new trailer introduces Twinkle Girl, one of the Robot Masters Mega Man will encounter during his latest adventure.

Twinkle Girl certainly has one of the more distinctive designs we’ve seen from the franchise, with an appearance that wouldn’t look entirely out of place alongside Hatsune Miku.

Of course, this is still Mega Man, so their meeting ultimately ends with a boss battle.

The footage shows Mega Man navigating a colorful new stage before eventually confronting Twinkle Girl, giving us an early taste of the familiar platforming and boss encounters the series is known for.

However, Dual Override isn’t simply relying on nostalgia.

Capcom is introducing several new mechanics designed to expand how players can customize and strengthen Mega Man.

One of the biggest additions is Custom Chips, which can be used to freely modify and enhance different abilities.

There’s also the new Override system, allowing players to temporarily unleash considerably more power when they need it most.

These systems could introduce significantly more flexibility to the traditional Mega Man formula, particularly when tackling the game’s larger stages and Robot Masters.

Proto Man Returns in Mega Man Dual Override

Capcom also confirmed that Proto Man will accompany Mega Man during the adventure.

The game’s story begins when robots suddenly run rampant during a Robot exhibition while Dr. Light is absent.

Mega Man and Proto Man are subsequently tasked with restoring peace to the city while uncovering the truth behind whatever caused the incident.

Capcom describes the premise:

“Mega Man is overriding his limits and powering up for a new adventure, but this time, he’s not alone! Proto Man joins the Blue Bomber as they take on new dangers in the latest addition to the Mega Man series.”

The return of Proto Man should be particularly exciting for longtime fans, although Capcom still has plenty to reveal about exactly how significant his role will be throughout the game.

Mega Man Dual Override currently has a broad 2027 release window, with no specific launch date announced.

When it does arrive, Capcom is giving the new entry an unusually wide platform release.

Mega Man Dual Override is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, Steam, and the Epic Games Store in 2027.

After such a long wait for another major Mega Man adventure, Dual Override’s first gameplay certainly gives fans plenty to look forward to.
